Hi all, I just scored a Cube 3 for free from my school today, and I was about to apply the 1.14B firmware hack, when the printer said it could not update the firmware at all. I retried with many different USBs with no avail. The printer recognizes .cube3 files that are put on the drive.

Any suggestions as to what I should do, or am I royally screwed?

Did you update your unit to the non hacked version first?

I did try yes. It wouldn't even update to that. The current version is 1.05.

Did you try updating from the latest software via wifi instead?

About how long should I wait? It was stuck on "Connecting to server" for about 2 minutes and I canceled it after that.

did you use the usb that came with it? I tried to update mine using a 32GB jump drive and I gave up after 5-10 minutes. Went to a smaller-older jump drive and all was well.

I did not get the USB drive that came with it, but I DID try using a 512MB drive from '05

You could try different USB drive brands, definetly. Some may be too old, some too new.

The only limitations that I know of with USB drives is that it can't be USB 3, and it has to be formatted as FAT32. Based on the fact that it will read .cube3 files, I would say the issue is not with your drive.

Well, a couple things have just been solved. First, my printer is actually an Ekocycle printer, and it wasn't supporting the versions for the Cube3, as to why it wasn't upgrading. But another question arises. Is there a hacked version of the Ekocycle 1.05 firmware, or do I have to do something more complex to get this thing to take my own PLA?

Im afraid you need to ask echei about the Ekocycle. It might be easier for him to find the cure. Please post it if he does ;)

Who is echei exactly, and where do I find him? (Again, I'm new to the 3d printing scene.)

Unfortunately, Eychei does not have an Ekocycle printer, as to why he has not released a firmware hack for it. Sorry to say everyone..
