View Full Version : Connect computer remotely to the printer, using USB over Network
http://www.incentivespro.com/usb-server.html
I haven't tested it yet.
But I will because my printer is kept far away from my computer, or sometimes I want to use the laptop, and Octoprint lacks a few features that i want to use from the computer software (Simplify3D my case).
There are commercial versions of USB over Network, but costing from 80USD to 150USD.

There are two good solutions.
USB Network Gate (http://www.eltima.com/products/usb-over-ethernet/) - share USB over Ethernet/LAN. It is not free but there is free trial, so you can at least experience whether the whole idea is worth while.FlexiHub (http://www.flexihub.com) - share not only USB but also COM ports devices. It has free version but with limitations.

Ok Im still asleep. Share what via what?!
Can you put an example of the "solution" you seek?

Ok! It's easy. Maybe I wasn't correct in details, sorry)
So, my printer is plugged to computer by USB port. But I want to share it over network by using software: in this way I don't have any distance limitation (one is a Windows PC in a home office upstairs, and the other one is a laptop running Windows 7 in a room downstairs).

So I have my printer plugged to a raspi (computer) via USB .... you mean this software would be of use if the raspi would not have an ethernet port?
Either way, which computer nowadays has no network capabilities?
