Resin Curing test

Open up your bottles and start testing! ;)

I've used the attached pattern (available on Onshape, download on Thingiverse) to run some curing tests with "Fun To Do deep black" resin (MakerJuice G+ to come later):

The pattern is 5cm x 5cm, with sufficient detail to see differences at each exposure attempt.

I'll try to keep a table with the "sweet spot" best exposure times for each tested resin:

FTD Deep Black comparison. The top 3 "prints" are simple single layer curing tests without using the build plate, each with different UV exposure duration. The bottom 2 "prints" are multi layer prints using the build plate, with 50sec UV exposure on the bottom layers and 17sec for the remaining layers.

but most important i see on this test is... ROOM TEMPERATURE!!

Sure, but not before Wednesday. Meanwhile, could you try Onshape (link above), which allows to "export" part and download as STL file.

@angrypanda.. thanks for starting this thread.. what tool did you use to cure your prints? Or did you just expose your prints to room temperature for 17-50 seconds? I am just trying to understand what you meant by 17-50 seconds..

Hi acnow. I believe the bottom layers had an exposure time of 50s and the rest of the layers were exposed for 17s.

and you need to set your "exposure time" to different combinations until you find the best that suits your printing, resin and ambient temp needs and report back with pics ;) (ie the perfect cure) by slicing the provided STL and "printing" it with the printer.

thanks for the clarification @woale .. I wonder which uv lamp (machine) did you use for that and how far from the printer did you put it (how about the angle)? A picture will be great..
PS: by the way when you said "100µ" -layer height.. did you mean "slice thickness"? If no.. where can I find that setting element?

Acnow, the curing tests were done simply with the Morpheus printer (no other external UV lamps or anything else), driven by Creation Workshop set on 100 micron slice thickness.

acnow, when TOW visits us, they show us the first thing to do when testing new resins is to test how fast or how slow the resin "cures", and try a small drop of it on top of the film and try different exposure times to see how it reacts to uv light, comparing the results on solidification of the layer. Ie how firm the layer is cured once exposed once to uv light.

@bolsoncerrado and @woale..where do you control de "time exposure" on your "Creation Workshop"?

I have carried out a print test for the MakerJuice G+ Black resin. Results are shown below, however to be honest, I have not been impressed with this range of resin. After many failed prints, I have the following results. The 35s/50s gave a brittle print that was thinner than expected, so broke during removal. The pigmentation is poor (photo converted to B&W to show transparency). I have bought Fun To Do resin and am hoping to get better results.

I got my Morpheus 4+ up and running tonight and did a cure test on FunToDo Snow White resin that I thought I would share.

Thank you woale for posting your parameters- I ran a test last night on my hackerspace's Morpheus with Fun To Do Snow White and the same 17 seconds per layer, 50 base layer worked fairly well for us.

That looks overcured to me. I have mine running at 12 seconds per layer and get perfect results.

Great work. What type of UV light do you use to test the relationship between resin "curing" and UV light? What is your best result, I can't wait to know.
