Cura for a Cube Pro

It would be great to have a thread that focuses on the setup and usage of Cura 3.x.x versions targeting a Cube Pro (because that is what I have) at least.

I am trying to piece together all the random bits and pieces of information in other threads to get this to work if it is even possible. I am fed up with the crappy output from the CubePro slicer and it's lack of options to improve the results.

So, fill in the information below.....

It would be nice if anyone would simply write the interface for 3D Systems.

Does 3D Systems offer anything to improve control over their printers in the way of controllable slicers?

Progress already in trouble. The cubepro decoders can't decode the latest output files from the desktop software and when I encode the output from cura, the 2.02 firmware on my printer says that it is not valid. Hmmm.....

Finally I am getting my printer to recognize the Cura ouput, the beginning lines with the '^' need to end with a <Ctrl-M> character or my printer says there is a problem.

I guess I won't be contributing to this thread any more. I replaced the controller with a Smoothie board. Open hardware and open firmware. I can use any slicer I want and after only a few test prints am seeing pretty good results.

Is there any sort of guide for this? The school I work at had a Cubepro Trio abandoned in a closet. I'm hoping to make it easier to use by getting past all the proprietary aspects. I've seen things for using different filament, but I havent found much on swapping the controller.

CubePro is still a process. The decoders don't work on the current slicer so we are only able to work with files up to version 1.87.

Cura does one thing I know is incorrect in their BFB. They use M109, Cubify doesn't.

Apparently Simplify 3D has a better implementation. This completely eliminates the Cubify slicer and uses the older compilers to make a valid print file.

Are you saying I could take files from Simplify 3D and print them on the Cubepro without using the Cubepro software to create a .cubepro file?

S3D is a game changer for the Pro but having Cura as free option would be really cool. Older versions of KISS is another option as it fully supported BFB in older versions also. Either of those + cubepro encoder + tweaks should get you there.

A few things about 3DS g-code.
1. They have some proprietary g-code (there are detailed threads on this forum).
2. Blank lines in g-code cause errors before print.
3. Comments cause errors before print.

BFB was the original retail 3d printer company purchased by 3DS. 3DS tweaked it and introduced closed source filament cartridges in the CubeX, but it still accepted BFB (unencrypted) print files. The Pro hardened the filament cartridge closed sourcing and added a heated chamber but the same BFB file format is still accepted once encoded.
