Saw a post on FB from Holgamods who had problems getting long prints to work. He found a bad wire to his mainboard cooling fan. With that fan not working the board gets overheated and do strange things.

I had a 20+ hour print and no problems...

but then I had wrapped my 5m long USB cable around a really large ferrite core...

    Something like this: http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...ne/ferrite.jpg

and some people over does this a bit: http://labjack.com/sites/default/fil...ith_chokes.JPG

I used both the stock USB cable as well as my old 5m long USB cable with the ferrite core... never stopped since.

Wasn't a USB issue, same problem occurred with printing from SD. Also we used some very good USB cables with decent ferrite on both ends and also tried with an USB isolator.

Problem turned out to be a bad board. As swapping the board for a different one fixed the problem. We'd also tried reloading firmware a couple of times on the old board so it was definitely a fault with the hardware. Pretty frustrating problem.

Was this a swap organised with Rapide Lite or did you go your own way?

Swapped to a smoothieboard, still working on tuning all the parameters on the smoothieboard though.

I remember you saying about getting one now. How is it? Is it as good as it we all all hope?

Well I can now do long prints so that is a start! I've still got to get all the settings up to have all the right speeds and settings, plus the install is a bit temporary so I waiting for some more connectors to make it more permanent. I'll post a write up on it once everything is going.
