    UPDATE: My home made slider

I fitted my slider yesterday but there were a few problems that need to be sorted before I could say it was a success.

PROS: Fitting was quick and easy as was removing and replacing original equipment (less than 30 mins to replace and be ready to calibrate).
Rail is strong enough for the job.
    Inexpensive.

CONS: Carriage has too much play with the weight of the extruder on it, no better than current rods & bearing block.
Tightening up the carriage (yes it's adjustable!) made it too tight to move freely on the rail.

I'm going to talk to the manufacturer about modifying the design of the carriage block to reduce play when used vertically, I'm guessing these are designed/better suited when used horizontally i.e. as replacements for the heated-bed bearings which I will probably use mine for.

Thanks for the kind words unfortunately it was not good enough at the moment to print anything as it was binding on the rail, I would have also had to find a way to mount the end switches before I could print and I need a working printer to do this
The good news is that it was very easy to fit and very easy to put the 'old' rods and bearings back, this means I can easily experiment with other modifications.
I need to get the carriage modified or find a different rail and carriage to use instead.

I am one of the 350 pledgers with nothing to show so far but from reading I gather I should upgrade to the slider...I am not the savvy builder / hacker you guys are. I'm actually thinking of going to China to fetch it myself..
