    heated bed for cube3D

    Hi Everyone,

    sorry for my bad English...I'm French...Nobody is perfect !
    I would like to know if anyone has tried to fit a heat bed on the printing plate of this printer.

    Will this have an (negative) impact on the magnets that secure the printing plate?

    hich could be glued on an aluminum plate to be fixed on the printing plate . All can be drive with an arduino (uno, for instance) to select the temperature.of the plate.

    Hi Michel

    I'm also interested in this and I do not believe the heat would impact the earth magnets. I *think* ~225F+ is the heating point that will begin to impact rare earth magnets (lowers magnetic strength).

    It appears that all of the components needed to do this are readily available, but I don't have the expertise. If you feel that you could do this with an Arduino and controller, I'd love to help (tag along).

    It could be possible with an external controller (like an arduino or pi) and power supply. But there really isn't a way to incorporated into the existing system with the existing motherboard/firmware.

    To print with ABS, the temperature must be around 90 ° C = 194 ° F .... so, not very far from 225 ° F!
    The "temperature regulation" component is not very difficult to make with an Arduino uno or even nano (very cheap).

    The heating mat has already the thermistance to connect to the arduino.
    At last but not at least is the mechanical problem to solve
    (how to attach the heated bed to the existing plate without transmiting temperature).

    For your information, the 3D cube that I just discovered is that of a friend who cannot print ABS.
    For my part, I have PRUSA type 3D printers that have a heated bed.

    I'm currently working on a CNC project ... but that's a different story.

    you're absolutely right, we must consider an external power supply + a regulation with an arduino.
    An arduino nano (for example) in which we upload the sketch that manages the temperature

    There are probably others too. As for the arduino, I was thinking a simple digital display and a rotary control. The display would show the current temp and the target temp, and the rotary control would control the target. A single click on the control would set the temp, a double click would disable it, add two buttons, one to set and one to clear.

    This evening, I made a print with ABS without heated bed and without glue. I used a painter's masking tape. Scotch blue....(you know certainly).
    Finaly, it worked fine. But I continue to think that the best way is heated bed.

    I am glad it worked. Your best bet, would to also enclose the cube. It generates a lot of heat while printing, so by putting it in an enclosure will help the ABS to adhere even better. What I've found, and others too, is that when you get a larger model with a larger footprint to cover more of the print bed, you'll start to see curling on the edges.

    My printers are located in my workshop, which is a room off my garage and can get very cool. I put my franken-cube (a Cube gen 2 converted to marlin), which does not have a heated bed, into an enclosure and I started getting much better prints and adhesion. This is just my experience so take it as is.

    Of course puting the printer under a cover is a good idea.
    Did I understand well : you put Marlin as a firmware for that cube? I knew Marlin for MEGA + RAMPS ....but I imagine that the board of the cube is not a mega....Is there a version of "Marlin" for that board?

    PS : I just follow the link you sent me....very nice : I have my answer about Marlin : You made a good work !

    Very interesting to discover another kind of printer : mine is PRUSA type. I also made a variante in the form of a cube.
