Need Help finding Cube Pro Parts

A local STEM education program near me was recently gifted 2 new Cube Pro Duos and a bunch of old, non-working CubeX printers. I've been helping sort through them and I need some parts to get them up and running.

One of the Cube Pro's still has all of the original zip-ties foam padding and transport plate that it had when shipped new from the factory, unfortunately it's missing the print bed and the nozzle wiper/bucket (since these parts were to be installed by the user and got lost at some point). Does anyone know where I can get replacements for these?

There are 6 CubeX printers as well though most of them are in rough shape, smashed up and missing lots of parts. There are at least two with mostly undamaged enclosures that I think I can get running by salvaging parts from the other printers. it looks like all of them had extruder related issues as all of them have damaged or cut filament tubes and the extruders look like they were stolen off of most of these machines. For these I'm mostly interested in any documentation showing what they SHOULD look like, and how they're assembled, particularly the extruders. but nearly all of the info I've found is related for the Pro and info on the X seems hard to come by.

Is the firmware for the Cube Pro also good for the CubeX?

Hi and welcome to the forum. I wish I had noticed this post sooner because I have a ton of xp with these printers and extra parts. I also love supporting STEM programs.

By now, you’ve probably made some progress with info from here and SDSystems site but please post any issues you are running into and I’ll do my best to help.

A couple of thoughts in response to your post.

1. The pro and cubex printheads are NOT compatible, even though the plugs are identical (12v vs 24v heating element). Trust me, don’t plug a cubex into a cubepro and fire up .
2. Damaged outer shells = no bit deal. I wouldn’t waste time trying to replace/repair and suggest removing and tossing damaged. The one real function you’ll need to solve for is the touch screen, which a working 3d printer can solve for quickly.
3. The construction, layout and major components are nearly identical - a cubex with the shell removed will be a good reference for repairing the others.

The OEM slicers are available here. They show their age but are capable. KISS (an older version?) and Simplify3d are good slicing options, with S3D being the best although not free option (Education license?). Upgrade each to the latest firmware (1.07 cubex and 2.02 cubepro) then begin by leveling and setting the z gap. I recommend setting the z gap to provide space before putting a plate in - you never know what the last person did and Ive seen some whacky stuff.

We're still looking for a Bed for one of the the Cube Pros, but we did mange to source an extra nozzle wiper/bucket

I did also find the Slicer Software for both the Cube X and the Cube Pro and some of the modified firmwares (though I have used them yet).

I have the Cube X up and running, filament loaded and extruding but it needs to be calibrated.

As for the Cube Pros I'm having issues with the filament, I'll try to follow the prompts to load in a cartridge, it will get to the part where it needs to feed in, I can see the stepper motor moving but it wont actually grab the filament and start pulling. this only last for about 20 seconds before it throws a filament feed error and then starts cooling back down. I didn't even get that far on the second extruder as the filament started breaking apart in the tube. I don't know if you have any tips on dealing with these issues or clearing out broken filament from the tubes. Any tips would be welcome.

I did have a similar problem with it not grabbing on the Cube X but I solved it by cranking up the heat on the nozzle, removing the tube from the top of the extruder and getting it started directly. Unfortunately on the Cube Pro I can't seem to do that as just throws the feed error before it starts grabbing.

Interesting I've discovered that the other machines aren't all CubeX's but there are two Bits from Bytes 3D Touch units. one of them is 95% complete and the other I think I have all the parts but it's mostly disassembled.

Oh yes! You are in it now my friend PM me and I'll get an imperfect bed in the mail to you - the bed wobbles in place so you'll need to remove all three magnets, clean the back and then reinstall them using the base to ensure no wobble. The face is in perfect condition, it just appears to me that someone attempted to reinstall one of the magnets and didn't use the base when they did.

I also have BFB printers and parts if you need anything.

I've found the OEM tube alignment bracket and setup makes feeding/loading a pain. It doesn't look as nice, but I've removed the plastic guide and the metal ends of the tubes on mine. Reloading filament is MUCH easier because you can easily guide the filament directly into the feeding assembly. It also reduces a little more weight from the print head assembly which helps print quality, even if just a little bit.

If filament catches but fails to purge then you may have a clog, which may require pulling the printjet off and carefully separating the main components. This will allow you to see what's stuck in there and to review the 4mmx2mmx40mm long PTFE internal tube. I've come across a few internal tubes that were swollen and had to be replaced. A hot air rework tool and print jet nozzle cleaning needle should make short work on any hard clogs.
