3D Scanning on MAC OS X

    Hi!

I'm curious if anyone has started scanning stuff (to print later on our printers? ) on MacOS environment... If it's without iPads, much better

I mainly ask because of this:

    http://skanect.occipital.com/

3D Scanning software for Mac and Win.

The fun part comes when the software can use Kinnect or any other 3D webcam hardware and make a cheap way to get models of almost everything rendered into .STL ready to print!

I'm particulary curious if anyone tried using a Kinnect piece of hardware to work under MacOS with this software, to see if it's worth paying its already "cheap" price

    Anyone?

Hi I have the App and I use OSX but have not tried it yet I will dig out my Old Kinect in the next couple of days and give it a try

    I have the Original
Kinect and I am not shure thats supported but will let you know how it goes

You probably seen this on the support page but here it is again

    Kinect (Windows & Xbox)
Windows -- Download and install the Kinect for Windows SDK (version 1.8).
Mac OS X -- No extra setup is necessary.
    Important
The Kinect for Windows sensor is NOT supported in Skanect for Mac.

The Kinect for Xbox sensor cannot be used commercially. - ? ? ? ?

    PLUS under Additional Setup

    Mac OS X

Only for NVidia GT 650 M or better: Download and install Mac CUDA Drivers to enable GPU reconstruction.

Seems to be say you need a NVidia Card & Unfortunately I have a 27" iMac with a AMD Card so this may also cause me problems

    cheers

    PS thanks for the site

AMD card? for the graphics? You meant ATI?

And yes, the information seems missleading already on the software: "Kinnect Windows -> MacOS X no extra setup necessary -> NOT supported in mac" LOL

There's a weird way to enable Kinnect to work on a Mac but I doubt that'll make Skanect to see it at all.... If you wanna try:

Yep my mistake Re: AMD the Graphic Card in my Mac is ATI Radeon HD 5750 - 1 Gb
Had a look at the link and its probably not worth the effort for me to try…Ive got and old Kinnect that probably only going to give LoRes results

It probably easier to set up and run it as a Win App thru Parallel’s maybe But probably won’t bother
this looks like the best option Structure Sensorfor this software…Mainly because it portable but even my iPad is to old for this
Think I’ll just wait a while there is bound to be more options for 3d Scanners coming out soon

Have you had a look at 123D Catch it free and it supports Android / iPhone/iPad & PC

    cheers

Yes it seems 123D Catch has better detail than those 3D Webcams....
